Flee to the Mountains

Peaks and valleys, highs and lows, that’s what life is. Nothing stays constant, neither good times nor bad. If you’re one of the many who are under the misconception that your life is just one blow after another, maybe it’s time for you to reconsider. Most likely, you’re simply overlooking the simple pleasures.

Everyone has low points in their lives, but once you hit rock bottom, you’ll know it. There are no ifs, ands or buts. It’ll hit you hard, so there’s no room for second guessing. However, it’s also true, that one will most likely reach their highest potential after hitting their lowest point. Sometimes, we just need reminders of the places we don’t want to end up and the people we never want to become. Sometimes, we need that extra motivation to create the life we want for ourselves.

While I believe in the strength and power of relationships, sometimes more than others, the only person we can truly and unconditionally turn to is ourselves. People often look for help or happiness in others. We hope to find someone that can suddenly make everything okay. While the thought of finding that person seems ideal and magical, I’m not too sure whether that exists. Sometimes, a person can be right by your side while you crash, and they might even be a part of it. But in the end, you’re the only one that has to live with the consequences.

Although you can’t expect someone to heal all wounds, they might be able to make it hurt a little less. They can’t magically fix everything, but they might be able to comfort you as you do. Sometimes, it’s simply an honest conversation with someone who refuses to judge. Getting things off your chest can help you escape from your own thoughts. Other times, it can just be the company of someone who was with you through it all. Someone who knows everything, yet nothing needs to be said. There are no explanations needed, just the closeness developed during a life-altering event. One can only hope that such intimacy can only bring people together instead of creating a complicated distance.

A Few Words of Love from One Man

We’re all fighting our own battles. While some are tougher than others, there is always some sort of struggle, no matter how big or small. Sometimes, it can just be a struggle to get up in the morning and put that smile on. Sometimes, it can be a struggle to get through the day. Sometimes, it can be a struggle to find a moment of peace.

"Where there is no struggle, there is no strength."

Despite the various struggles, we encounter countless people throughout our lives. Some remain mere strangers that we exchange smiles with, others become acquaintances that we exchange casual words with and a select few find their way so deep into our hearts that we end up exchanging a part of our lives, a part of our struggles, a part of ourselves.

When we find ourselves constantly fighting our own battles, what is it that makes us fight for others? How are we able to forget our own struggles, even briefly, in order to fight for someone else? When do someone else’s struggles become more important than our own? How do those select few make their way so deep within our hearts?

Perhaps, we all have that nauseatingly soft side that wants to see the ones we care about happy. Maybe, it’s just nice to have something to distract ourselves from our own problems. And for certain people, we just want to be that person. The person that can make a difference, the person that they can go to, and most importantly, the person that can miraculously heal all of their wounds.  Or maybe, we’re just secretly hoping that they would be willing to do the same for us.

But, what if they don’t? What if the person that you would be willing to go out of your way for doesn’t seem to be willing to reciprocate your actions? Well, that’s probably one of the worst feelings, and there’s no way around it. At first, you may attempt to make excuses for the person. You try your best to use all rationale to defend their actions or lack thereof. And after a while, you’ll probably run out of excuses and be forced to face the facts.

The truth is, these actions, or lack thereof, can be hurtful. However, it’s also true that the urgency to help someone, share with them or stick by their side is not something that can be forced. It’s either there or it’s not, and it’s not something you can hold against someone. Another truth is that just because someone doesn’t care for you the way you want them to or isn’t able to show that they care, doesn’t mean that they don’t.

"Whenever you feel like you are on an emotional roller coaster, just find the person who makes the bumps a little smoother, the curves a little straighter and the free falls a little less scary."

A Song Only You Can Hear

I've always been fascinated with the idea of time. How it has the ability to heal certain wounds and not others. How does so much change with time yet nothing really changes at all? How is it that in certain cases, even a lifetime couldn't be enough yet in other situations, a single moment can change it all?

How can just a few days with someone be nearly enough to lower the guard you have put up for years? How can a few moments of honesty suddenly vanquish the wall that was made sturdier day by day? How can one moment transform an entire relationship, transform it into something you've always been against and it suddenly seem alright. The worries and hesitancies suddenly disappear and for once, you actually find yourself living in the moment. You find yourself enjoying your days rather than stressing about the upcoming consequences. Your rational self is unexpectedly being spontaneous and rather than thinking everything through, all you can do is feel your emotions. It's like some kind of movie, because this just can't be real life.

And just like that, in only a matter of days, hours, moments, things suddenly go back to normal. Things go back to the way they've always been, but it will never quite be the same; you will never quite be the same.

The movie's over, and all you can do is relive it through all of the wonderful memories.

Spinning On Our Own, Never to Be Undone

"...He is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."

Isn't that what we all do? We spend hours over-analyzing what we could have said or should have done differently or scripting out that crucial talk that could make or break a relationship. However, the truth is that we can neither change the past nor fully control the future. And as much as we like to think that we have it all under control, there is only so much that is truly within our power. Not everything is in our hands, and sometimes, we just have to ride the tide and go where life takes us.

There's that never-ending battle between fate or destiny and our decision-making power. I'd like to think that life somehow intertwines the conflicting concepts. Certain things are within our control, while others are simply part of a greater plan. So you have your own vision filled with dreams and goals, but you must be able to adapt to anything that life may throw your way. We all live with the idea that we always have tomorrow. We can talk later, and things will come together when the time is right. When in reality, nothing is guaranteed. Just when you think you have it all figured out, life will turn it all upside down; who said it was supposed to be easy?

"Fate is a manifestation of natural causes. That's it. It is not a conscious entity. It has no plans."

And once again, it's all about perspective. You can linger on everything that should have happened differently, everything that you could have done or said that would have changed it all or you can simply make the most of what you have. You can live with the unresolved issues of the past or the fear of the changes the future could bring or just make the most out of the present. You can dwell upon the missed opportunities of the past and the lack of time in the future or simply live in the moment for once.

Say everything that's on your mind and do everything you've been yearning for. It's all about being open to the opportunities and making the most out of the time that you have. Sometimes, the few moments of happiness in the present can make up for all of the heartache of the past and offer greater memories to remember in the future.

So, taking my own advice and listening to my own words, a friend and I have decided to write down at least one thing that makes us happy each day. We're also adding pictures and turning it into a summer scrapbook. It's only been a few days, but I must say that it has made me appreciate all of the little things just a little bit more.

"Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you'll look back and realize they were the big things."

Even the Wrong Words Seem to Rhyme

Life is funny sometimes. We see others, at their best and worst, and we tell ourselves that we will never be "that girl", "that guy" or "that person". We claim to not be judgmental, but let's get real, we all do it. And before we know it, we find ourselves becoming the person we despised, the person we swore we'd never be.

Sometimes we find ourselves fighting for the things that don't seem to be worth the struggle to anyone else. Other times, we find ourselves trying to ignore the obvious, simply because it conflicts with the perfect vision playing in our heads. We do irrational things that we didn't know we were capable of. In the process, we end up surprising ourselves, but in the end, we realize our worth.

Just as it's not fair to ignore the bad in a person for the good, it also isn't fair to ignore the good because of a few bad decisions. When you spend time with a person, talk to them, get to know them, you get a feel for who they are and what they stand for. You realize how much they could possibly mean to you and whether that's worth putting up with their worst.

They say that when mistakes are repeated, they are no longer considered mistakes but rather a reflection of character; I beg to differ. Some things take longer to set in, and repetition can do the trick. Certain repercussions seem to be more clear the second time around. And when they are repeated, they can no longer be ignored.

Most people end up living in regret- regretting all bad choices and wrong decisions, over-analyzing everything that could have been done differently. But the bad choices only lead to better ones. They help us grow, learn and become better versions of ourselves.

"If you've never fallen, you will never know what it's like to get up."

An Arch to Build Upon

We're all afraid of something, and knowingly or unknowingly, we try to compensate for it with something else. We direct our attention elsewhere, focus on other things. We attempt to accommodate with other distractions. But the truth is, none of those distractions can be permanent.

But then again, I'm the kind of person that tends to see the cup half full. So, "when one door closes, another opens". I like to think of it as when one door closes, a thousand others open. Opportunities are everywhere, and they're endless; it's just a matter of capturing them.

When we become comfortable, it makes it even more difficult to let go of the ease and attempt for something greater. After all, isn't that what life is all about? As terrifying as it can be to let go of the familiar for the mere possibility of some thing more, we're supposed to continue to grow, learn, experience. We're supposed to accomplish things larger, better, greater than the ones before. It's what we strive for, what we live for.

A Little Sunshine

As I went for a swim this afternoon in my neighborhood pool, I finally spoke to someone I often see. We usually just exchange friendly smiles and casual hellos. As we began talking today, she realized that we often see each other at the gym and responded, "Oh, you're the runner." Trust me, I'm far from a "runner" but I am getting there.

My point? It suddenly hit me that every action really does make more of an impact than we think. Sometimes, we do things that are out of the ordinary, things that aren't true to our character, things that aren't "us". At times they are positive and other times negative. We can rationalize the negative decisions by assuring ourselves that it was just a one-time thing. But what about that person that only knows us from seeing us at that one moment?

That's the impact you made on that person. That is how they will think of you. That is how they will remember you. If someone only sees me running at the gym, they will think of me as a runner. Likewise, if someone only sees me at the library studying, they will probably think I'm a nerd. It's all about context; not everyone knows the whole story.

It's true that every action has a reaction. It's also true that every action makes an impact, whether we realize it or not. It's just the severity of the impact that varies.

I failed to mention earlier that my new friend is significantly older. Surprisingly, I was intrigued by her stories rather than bored. She has been through a lot, to say the least, and yet she is still open to new opportunities. Inspiring, right? There is so much that I have managed to convince myself wasn't meant for me, not right now at least. But that's the wrong mindset. It's important to be open to the possibilities and welcome the opportunities as they arise with open arms. It's the only way to experience, feel, live.

What if it doesn't work out? Ah, but what if it does.

Free to Roam

Life isn't about the number of breaths you take, it's the moments that take your breath away, or so they say.

Although I agree with the above quotation, it fails to mention anything about the moments that fill you with life, the ones that allow you to breathe.

The moments when you allow yourself to let loose. The ones that make you forget about any stress, worries, or negativities. The moments where you are truly living in the moment. Moments of spontaneity. The ones that feel surreal. The kind that make you believe just for a second that you're in a movie, because such things can only take place in movies; there is no room for them in real life. True adventures. Adventures that make you smile and provide you with that unique sense of happiness that one rarely encounters. The kinds of moments that should fill each of our days, every moment. However, if you are able to experience it at all, you are quite fortunate.

Sometimes, a break from routine is exactly what you need.

Today, you inspired me.

Beautiful to Me

Everyone has that one moment that they often attempt to picture. Something we daydream about, but the reality of it actually occurring anytime soon is just too far-fetched. So we let our imaginations run wild hoping to catch a glimpse of what that moment might feel like, knowing that it will be amazing, whenever it happens.

But it could come sooner than you think, and it doesn't have to be anything extraordinary. The moments that mean the most to us are usually the ones that others would find insignificant, because only you realize its true value, only you can feel all of the emotions that are attached, and only you can capture it for all that it is. And only those that are close to you, the ones that know the whole story, may be able to fathom the immense intensity of it.

Needless to say, reality will always manage to somehow surprise you regardless of the numerous times and ways you may have imagined it happening.

Mine not only came at a time when I least expected it, but also at a time when I almost did not want it, as crazy as that may sound. Instead of imagining the possibilities, I am now re-playing reality in my head, and I'm still a little flustered. Perhaps because I still can't wrap my head around the idea of it all. And when I say most people would think of it as insignifanct, I'm not exaggerating, or underestimating for that matter. It's just one of those things.

Everything in Life is Gray, You Know

Things aren't always black or white. They aren't always right or wrong. There isn't always an evident answer; there is always that gray area. What we fail to realize is that people work the same way. As we are complex, so are our thoughts and feelings. So half the time we spend just trying to figure out how we feel or what exactly we think instead of realizing that there is rarely ever a clear-cut answer. Sometimes it's difficult, impossible even, to put a name onto these feelings. They are not always meant to be expressed into words.

It's okay to have mixed feelings or a combination of thoughts. However, things start getting a little messy when the feelings begin to conflict one another or when the combination of thoughts is simply irrational. Love and hate or annoyance and admiration for example, two opposing extremes, yet we find ourselves loving and hating something or getting annoyed by yet admiring them at the same time.

They say that the people we dislike most are usually the ones that remind us of ourselves, of our flaws. That's not always the case, but it seems to be true quite often. Other times, negative feelings arise from our own insecurities. When such negative feelings are directed toward us, it's okay to be a little sympathetic. It's important to still be ourselves and not let it be an excuse to act like anything less.

And then then there are times when find ourselves with extremely positive and extremely negative feelings toward one person all together. I can't help but think even the most extreme negative feelings must stem from some kind of passion. With time, one feeling will most likely overpower the other, but then again, who wants to wait for things to unfold? Especially when you find keep finding yourself in the same position weeks, months, or even years later.

Holding on Too Tightly

When we care about someone, we want what's best for them. Naturally, we look out for them and want to keep them away from harm and danger.

It's understandable. However, it's also important to understand, that at the end of the day, everyone has to make their own decisions. It might be our duty to warn them, to inform them about possible consequences, but it's their life and they have the right to make their own choices. You can't make decisions for others, especially when it's evident that your choices contradict their wishes.

But what happens when the person making the decision for you happens to be the only one that has any control over the situation? When you know what you want and the only person standing in the way is the one that you are willing to take the risk for. When you know that they are pushing you away for your own benefit, but what they don't realize is that they are hurting you in the process. Pain that could possibly be worse than what they are trying to protect you from.

What happens when you are so close to what you want, everything finally working out, all of it finally seems to be within reach, yet you no longer have any control over the situation.

The past is now part of my future. The present is well out of hand.

Mixed Signals?

We often overlook what's always been right in front of us in the pursuit of others. But one simple encounter can transform everything. All we need is one person to make us realize that what we once thought was impossible suddenly seems to be within our reach. And just when we begin to believe it, things begin to change. A transition in the midst of our transformation just leaves us in utter confusion.

Confusion can really take a toll on a person, on their minds, their actions, and everything in between. I think half of the insane psychotic things people do is simply to find out what's going on in the minds of others.

Not knowing where you stand with someone can be the most difficult and painfully excruciating position to be in. Getting mixed signals doesn't really help either.

The most important thing is to remain true to yourself. That way, it doesn't really matter what someone else is thinking or feeling. Okay, it may still matter, but at the end of the day, you have the satisfaction of knowing that the changes were worth it.

Do people ever really change? They can, and whether it's for the better or worst, the change is usually ignited by someone else, someone who matters enough. We might break our own rules thinking certain people will be worth it, but the moment things begin to change, we start to rethink it all.

Positive change is always good. Even if things don't work out, you're left a better person, and nothing is more valuable than that. However, other changes aren't as desirable. Especially when you begin to change your beliefs and ideals. Make sure whatever/whoever you're changing for is worth it.

The true test: would you be making the same decisions if things were going differently?

"It would be so nice if something would make sense for a change."

All Smiles

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until the day they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born." -Anais Nin

I've always been against the idea of letting others affect how I feel. Simply because I don't like giving others the ability, the power to get me down.

However, as irrational as this may sound, giving others that power can actually help you learn more about yourself. It gives us the opportunity to grow. We could experience something we thought we never would, feel something we thought we were incapable of, or even find something that we thought wasn't meant for us. Granted the experience could be negative, it still shows us that we are capable of more, or less, than we assume.

We often underestimate ourselves or simply comply with the idea that some things aren't meant for us. Sometimes, we need someone to show us how untrue that can be.

"It's the rule of life: everything you've always waited for comes the very second you stop looking for it."

The World is Yours

One of the most rewarding feelings, if not the most rewarding, is to volunteer your time for the benefit of others and realize that you have made some sort of an impact in someone's life. It may not be the biggest sacrifice or even seem significant at the time, but it's truly astonishing how any slight effort makes some sort of a difference or leaves some kind of a footprint.

"Sometimes, the smallest things take up the most room in your heart."
-Winnie the Pooh

Those are the moments that remind you that life isn't all about you. In this day and age, we have so much to focus on: school, work, etc. We're all busy, but never too busy for the things we enjoy. It's important to use that time to help others, help your community. At the end of the day, that's how we will leave our mark on the world. We will make a difference through the lives we touch and the bonds we make.

Once we stop focusing selfishly on ourselves and just attempt to do the right things, everything else simply falls into place. Things might not always end up the way we had predicted or hoped, but that's what makes it all even more exciting. Things may not always turn out how we want them to, but in the end, they turn out how we need them to. We could begin to feel something that we thought we were no longer capable of, something we thought we had lost somewhere down the road. As frightening as that can be, it reminds us that there is still a slight chance of having the things we had given up on. Only time will tell, but in my case, the reminder was very much necessary. And as scared as I may feel right now, at least I'm not numb.

Pulling Apart, Falling Together

The past couple of days have been eye-opening, to say the least. Things are finally starting to somewhat fall into place, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Everything has been all over the place recently, my thoughts, feelings, emotions, everything. Honestly, I don't think I was much of myself. I haven't updated in over a month, for one. If I'm not writing, I'm definitely not myself. However, I am now revived with a fresh new perspective.

I'm a strong believer in the whole "everything happens for a reason" concept, which is evident in most of my posts. As outrageous as the idea may seem to many, life keeps leading me to believe there is some truth in it. Some unexpected events opened my eyes to new opportunities, how much more proof do I need?

An unexpected encounter also lead me to realize what I deserve and what I have been settling for instead. I had one of those "what the fuck was I thinking" moments. I tend to have a lot of those. But I'm thankful for them because I'm either coming to my senses or growing and moving on, both of which are positive.

This transition couldn't have come at a better time either since I celebrated Navroz, the Persian new year, on Monday. I was able to start off the year on the perfect note.

I couldn't be happier or more excited, not for anything in particular, but just for the opportunities I have ahead of me. For knowing what I'm capable of, what I deserve, and being a step closer to it.

We all make mistakes, we've all done things we're not proud of, and it's only a matter of time before the repetition of these mistakes eventually turns into your character. It's only a matter of time before the secrets are let out. However, it's all a matter of choice. The way you put yourself out there is the way people will see and treat you. But at the end of the day, it's about realizing that you're better than that and moving forward.

These recent realizations also somehow helped me let go of a lot of old, lagging baggage. One day you wake up, and you realize that you're over it. I'm not referring to one thing/person/situation in particular, but everything in general. And once you let go, it honestly gives you a whole new sense of peace and freedom within yourself.

On a completely different note, I recently saw the cutest little book at Francesca's, which also has most adorable clothes and accessories. It was a huge sticky note pad with random quotes and sayings. Pretty much the perfect thing to make anyone's day, loved one, friend, or even a stranger. I didn't buy it, but I'd like to make one of my own, and make someone's day, everyday. It just might be my new thing.

2.11.2011

Three

People come and people leave. I believe that God carefully places and removes people from our lives. I believe that there is a lesson to learn from everyone that walks in to our lives. There is a method to the madness. It's all part of a master plan that we are unable to comprehend, not at the time at least.

Sometimes we lose people only to get over it and move on. Other times, we lose the people that hold our world together, our glue. Once they're gone, everything seems to fall apart. But as they say, life goes on; it doesn't stop for anyone. Slowly but surely, at some point, we have to learn to put our world back together, whether it's on our own or with the help of some loved ones. I have found that after losing the glue, it's really difficult to depend on others to make everything okay. Somehow, loss manages to instill a fear of losing other things, the rest of the people that matter most.

"Someone once said that death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside of us when we live."

I'm afraid this fear will cause me to miss out on all the good stuff the world has to offer. I'm afraid of depending on someone, letting someone in, getting too close, because I would be too scared to lose them too.

Today is three years since I lost my glue, and I honestly don't know how I'm still breathing or how I've managed to survive three whole years. I lost the one person that understood me better than anyone else, the one that always believed in me, always saw more potential in me than you could ever imagine, loved me unconditionally, was always there, the list goes on but I'm sure you get the idea.

"It all just seems so fake. This idea that good things happen to good people and there's magic in the world, and that the meek and righteous will inherit it. There's too many good people who suffer for something like that to be true. There are too many prayers that go unanswered. Every day we ignore how completely broken this world is, and we tell ourselves that it's all going to be okay, 'You're going to be okay.' But it's not okay. And once you know that, there's no going back. There's no magic in the world, at least today there isn't."

12.31.2010

High Aspirations, Moderate Expectations

When you love someone, care about someone, it's only natural to have expectations for them. You want the best for them, or your idea of what's best at least. And being on the other side, if you care about someone, you want to live up to their expectations. You want to please them, make them proud. There's nothing wrong with that except eventually you stop living for yourself and start living for others.

When is it okay to stop? For me, as soon as the thought of it crosses my mind, the guilt begins to consume me. If I start making decisions just for myself, with no consideration to the ones I love, am I not being selfish?

A good friend once said to me that the best relationships are those where you don't want anything from each other, don't expect anything. It's when you're there to simply talk, listen, and be there for each other, nothing more. No expectations, no judgement. That's when you can be yourself and accept each other for who you truly are.

Live your life. Whether it's for yourself or others, that's your decision.

Also, because we're only hours from New Years Eve, it only makes sense for me to at least mention it. Call me crazy, but I'm not big on this whole New Years thing, never have been. If you want change, it comes everyday. Resolutions, reflections, it happens everyday. You don't have to wait for the year to end and a new one to begin for all that. But I have learned a lot this year and grown tremendously. I'm hoping to learn, grow, and experience even more in 2011.

I've already decided that this year will be a good year.

12.19.2010

In the Head, In the Heart

You would assume that everyone knows what they want in life, but the thing is, we don't. Ideas and reality are two different things. You can think up the most perfect recipe in our head, but when you try it for real, it can end up being the complete opposite of what you imagined. The same goes for people.

We believe that we know what things we want and what kind of people we like to surround ourselves with. We know what characteristics we like in people, what we admire, and what we despise. With these ideas, we end up making some sort of criteria in our heads, similar to a check list. And when someone doesn't fit that criteria, we tend to write them off. Well, nothing can happen with this person because they aren't this, or they don't have this, etc.

Ever think to look outside that box? To give someone different a chance? Give them a chance to prove you wrong? I'm guilty of not giving those people chances. However, now speaking from experience, what you least thought you wanted can end up being exactly what you were looking for. Open your eyes and heart, and give your brain a rest every once in a while. Just because something makes sense in your head, doesn't mean it will appeal to your heart, and vice versa.

Give people the opportunity to surprise you. You never know what they could have in store.

11.01.2010

Never Mine to Hold

Honestly, I haven't been content in a very, very long time. There is always something going wrong, something missing. They say that happiness is being able to look through the imperfections. However, some things are pretty damn hard to ignore. But it's also true that lately, I have had some small moments of true happiness and peace within myself. Those aren't always easy to come by. Anything from going to Jamatkhana (place of worship for Ismaili Muslims) to a nice lunch with the best friend. The simpler things I suppose.

Moments where I have felt comfortable, secure. Safe in the arms of someone I care about who I know cares about me just as much. I'm a thinker, an analyzer. I like tags, labels, and clear-cut definitions. Unfortunately, life isn't all black and white or right and wrong. It's about what's right for you, what's right at the time, what makes you happy. And all you can do is go with the flow and hope that slight feeling of happiness or contentment lasts.

A wise person once said to me that there are certain people who we never really lose feelings for. We just forget about the feelings, but as that person works their way back into our lives, the feelings do as well. Sounds accurate. Perhaps, they never really go away, they just get buried under newer thoughts, feelings, and distractions. Who knows.

Walking in the Rain

Nothing like a rainy day to get you thinking, huh?

It's important not to lose sight of the future. Our actions now will effect how our lives become later. People like to think that everything will be okay, it's a good thought. No matter what happens, people can get by. However, there is a difference between getting by and getting what you want. Motivation comes from inside. Isn't it our own desires that drive us? No one else can motivate you other than yourself. No matter what happens or what the circumstances are, if you really truly want something, you'll find a way to make it happen. Don't let anyone or anything distract you from your goals. Once distracted, it's really hard to get back on track. That's not to say that life can't have a different plan in store or if someone is going on a different path, they must be wrong. Just remember what's important.

On a completely different note,
Don't you hate it when you want to say something but just can't seem to find a way to get it out? I sure do. It's usually the unspoken thoughts and feelings that are the most important to express. That's why it's difficult. Life doesn't make anything easy. Ignoring an issue does not solve it. Confronting leads to solving it, or at least acknowledging that there is an issue. Confrontation sounds harsh and aggressive, but it doesn't have to be that way. Unfortunately, even the most talkative of us get scared to say the things worth saying. If you care enough, speak up. I cared, so I spoke. Whether it makes a difference or not, at least I'll have the satisfaction of knowing that I tried rather than simply sitting back and worrying silently.

Hate to see you leave. (One of the workers at Publix was saying that to every customer after ringing them up, and it resonated with me. Hm I just might start using that)
